The institute for the purpose of training men and women called to Biblical centred ministry, well known in Meghalaya as the Nichols-Roy Bible College, started as a very small Rev. J. J. M. Nichols-Roy Bible School in 1982 at Qulapatty, in the heart of Shillong city.  The said Bible School was upgraded to the College in 1992 and shifted to Sohryngkham Campus in 1995. The site was in the middle of the forest twenty five years ago, but today as the city keeps expanding the campus is now in the suburb of Shillong city. 

I would sound bragging to state that the location is breathtakingly picturesque which only if you be there in person you would agree with the comments of all friends who have been in the campus. Located at the cliff of the Umkhen river overlooking the Shillong peak at a distance, one would surely have a mountaintop experience of freshness and never ending exhilaration of God’s own garden as he/she sets foot in the campus. For that reason and others, students who graduated knowing they have to be gone for a long time, usually leave the campus with grateful tears mixing joy of completion of their studies and sadness of having to leave the beautiful campus.

 The institute, however, does not base its purposes and functions on the beauty of its surrounding. Under the guidance of Asia Theological Association, the accrediting association; Nichols-Roy Bible College strives to excel on the three areas of emphasis in its training of students. 1. Academics, 2. Character formation, and 3. Ministerial experiences. It is only when a student passes satisfactorily in all three areas that qualification for graduation is considered. The institute takes its training very seriously as it is deeply concerned about the Kingdom of God where ever its graduates disperse with the message of the Truth.

Any person who has passed 10 +2 level or its equivalent from any recognized university qualifies to apply for the Bachelor of Theology (B. Th.) program and a graduate from any discipline from recognized university can apply for the Master of Divinity (M. Div.) course. Those with high second class and first class B. Th. passed from A. T. A. accredited institutions can apply directly for M. Div. Second Year. Hence, at present NBC offers only B. Th. and M. Div. programs in residence.  

The College is blessed to avail the services of qualified and experienced faculty who have passed M. Th. and above in their respective area of specialization, except for one new teacher who will start M. Th. studies sooner than later. In collaboration with our distinguished guest lecturers nationally and internationally, we invite such faculty to teach at NBC whenever necessary. 

So far as the College’s community of students, faculty, and staff in campus is concerned; it is a multi-culturally and denominationally mixed group of people. Students come from all states of Northeast India, as far as Jharkhand, and from neighbouring countries. Unity in diversity is however strongly maintained when persons from all tribes and denominations are equally loved and respected irrespective of their cultural, denominational, and tribal differences.

The institute that has celebrated Silver Jubilee in 2017 is surely having hundreds of alumni. The Nichols-Roy Bible College Alumni Association formed in the past is recently strengthened. It is better organized now with strong leadership by the gifted alumni. This association is very important for the College. It is the extended arm of the college to connect with the Church at large. Our 2022-23 Academic Year will commence on the 13th of July 2022. We expect to add more students in the next academic year. God has been faithfully provided our needs in the last academic year. We believe He will continue to shower his blessings on Nichols-Roy Bible College as we determine to trust in Him and do our part the best we can.
