According to the vision of Nichols-Roy Bible College, participation in practical ministry is as important as involvement in academic process and character development. Studying at a Bible College implies not only gaining of academic knowledge, but also learning the practical skills of involvement in practical ministry. The college attaches great importance to the practical ministry as a very important aspect in the training of the students for effective ministry after his/her study at NBC is completed.
The aim of our practical ministry program is to provide a context for integrating classroom theory with practical ministry experience where students can learn to serve people, build interpersonal relationships, networking with people and also learn to share their faith through the love of Christ. The purpose of the practical ministry is to help prepare our students in translating the knowledge learned into effective ministry to people.
The practical ministry programs of the college include week-end outreach ministries to churches, Christian fellowship groups, home visitations, schools, hospitals, prisons, etc through our networking and partnership with churches, para-churches, educational organizations and non-governmental organizations under the coordination of the Practical Ministry Department of the college. So, every student at NBC is expected to be involved in the practical ministry programs as organized by the College. All expenses for travel, food and accommodation for the purpose of practical ministry are taken care of by the Practical Ministry Department.
Besides the week-end practical ministry, students get an opportunity to develop their homiletics skills through the morning devotions.
At NBC, we have two hostels: Horeb for men and Olive for women, as well as quarters for married students. Roommates in both hostels come from diverse cultural and denominational backgrounds to promote unity. This fosters healthy relationships among students. Our hostels are safe and nurturing, supporting the college’s commitment to holistic student development.
Students in both hostels have the responsibility to live respectfully with their roommates, reflecting Christian values in their daily lives. They also learn the importance of hard work and cleanliness through regular cleaning duties. Leadership opportunities like hostel secretaries and floor supervisors are given to students, promoting Christian stewardship and discipline.
Weekly hostel prayers are led by students, helping them grow spiritually and deepen their relationship with God. Roommates also become prayer partners, supporting each other and building strong friendships centered on prayer and spirituality.
At NBC, chapel and cell group meets serve as the powerhouses. We recognize the importance of academic growth and infrastructure developments. However, we believe in putting God first in all we do. We draw spiritual strength from the various programs organized by chapel and cell groups. All chapel services and programmes are mandatory for all. Programs for each chapel are highlighted in the notice board ahead of time for prior preparation and prayers.
On every class day, there is chapel from 7:45 AM – 8: 5 AM, where we have a short worship time and prayer, and speaking from the word of God.
On Saturday evening, there are community prayers. Saturday prayers often act as a window to the world as prayer leaders prepare themselves with power-points the different needs of the world and pray for it.
We have Sunday community worship where students, often in class-wise, take turn to lead and organize different meaningful and lively programs. Faculty member on weekend duties are usually speakers for Sunday worship services.
In regards to Cell Group in NBC, there are four cell groups. They are Instruments of Worship, Heirs of Grace, Restoration Station and God’s Work in Progress. Cell group meets once in a week in different allotted classrooms to take in spiritual nutrients through different programs like prayer, Bible study, debates, etc…so that each member get strengthened in their journey towards Christ-likeness. Official mentoring happens at cell group as well where cell group mentors meet their allotted student assigned by cell group leaders for the particular mentoring period twice a month.
Cell group also takes turn to lead Community Worship Service once in academic year. It is at this community worship service that each cell group choose a theme for the evening and organise every program accordingly. The faculty board chooses speakers for these Community Worship Services.
Various duties and responsibilities in the college are also carried out in Cell group-wise. Students enjoy lives together in each cell group. Cell group thus plays significant role in the whole growth and development of the body and family of NBC.
The College campus is located at Sohryngkham, about 22 Km. from Shillong on the Shillong-Jowai National Highway (NH 44). The campus is blessed with pollution-free air amidst the year-round green pine trees and scenic beauty surrounding, not far away from the famous tourist spot of Sweet Falls on the Umkhen river.
The social Work program at NBC aims to prepare students for ministry roles by imparting awareness of the future tasks. It is also fostering discipline, emphasizing cleanliness and efficient time management, crucial for their upcoming responsibilities. The Program envisions nurturing teamwork skills essential in social work contexts. Nichols Roy Bible Collage promotes discipline by assigning students duties like maintaining campus cleanliness and caring for the environment as a reflection of their stewardship of God’s creation and their act of worshipping God even through their works.. Through social work, students demonstrate their love for nature, contributing to the positive environment at NBC.
